Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
1. Who we are
livedhere.world is a platform where people share first-hand memories from the homes of famous people — and their own. This service is operated by livedhere.world (“we”, “us”, “our”). You can contact us at [email protected].
We are committed to handling your personal information responsibly and in accordance with applicable privacy laws, including the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and the Australian Privacy Act 1988.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide directly
- Account information: email address and password when you create an account.
- User content: memories, reflections, likes and dislikes you submit about properties, along with any photos you upload.
- Property searches: addresses or famous person names you search for on the site.
Information collected automatically
- Log data: your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URL, and pages visited, collected by our hosting provider (Vercel).
- Usage data: how you interact with the site — searches performed, pages viewed, and actions taken.
Information from third parties
- Google Maps / Places API: when you search for an address, your query is sent to Google to return location suggestions. Google’s own privacy policy applies to that data.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and maintain your account
- Display memories and property information to you and other users
- Send you transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset)
- Moderate content for accuracy and community standards
- Improve and develop the service
- Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, or illegal activity
- Comply with legal obligations
4. Legal basis for processing (GDPR / UK GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Contract: processing your account information to provide the service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests: improving the service, preventing abuse, and understanding how people use the site — where these interests are not overridden by your rights.
- Legal obligation: where we are required to process data to comply with the law.
- Consent: where you have given clear consent, such as for optional communications. You may withdraw consent at any time.
5. Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers: Supabase (database and file storage, USA/EU), Vercel (hosting and edge delivery, USA), and Google (Maps and Places API, USA). Each operates under their own privacy policy and data processing agreements.
- Public content: memories and photos you submit are displayed publicly on the site unless you delete them.
- Legal requirements: if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal process.
- Business transfers: if livedhere.world is acquired or merges with another entity, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
6. International data transfers
Our infrastructure is based primarily in the United States (Vercel, Supabase). If you are located in the EEA, UK, or Australia, your data may be transferred to and processed in countries that may have different data protection laws. Where required by GDPR or UK GDPR, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place (such as Standard Contractual Clauses).
7. Data retention
We retain your account information and submitted content for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the service. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or legitimate business purposes (such as fraud prevention or legal compliance).
Anonymised or aggregated data that cannot identify you may be retained indefinitely.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you are located, you may have the following rights:
- Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Deletion: ask us to delete your personal data (“right to be forgotten”).
- Restriction: ask us to restrict how we process your data in certain circumstances.
- Portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format (EEA/UK).
- Objection: object to processing based on legitimate interests (EEA/UK).
- Non-discrimination: we will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights (California).
- Opt-out of sale: we do not sell personal information. No action required.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days (or within the timeframe required by applicable law). We may ask you to verify your identity before processing your request.
EEA residents have the right to lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority. UK residents may contact the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Australian residents may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
9. Cookies and tracking
We use essential session cookies to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking cookies. Log data collected by Vercel may include your IP address for security and performance purposes.
We do not currently use third-party analytics services that set cookies.
10. How homes appear on the site (map and search)
livedhere.world is built around memories of the past, not information about who lives in a home today. To protect the privacy and safety of current residents — particularly children — we apply the following rules:
- We do not publish a public map, directory, or browsable list of the private homes that have user-submitted memories. A memory about a specific private home can only be found by searching for that exact address — you cannot browse a neighbourhood to discover which homes have entries. To find or create a memory for a specific place, use the search function.
- Any map feature on the site displays only notable, historical, or public-figure locations. Private residences submitted by users are never shown as pins on a map.
- We ask contributors to share memories of the past. We do not permit content that identifies children currently living at a property, or that describes the current occupants or household makeup of a home. Content of this kind will be removed.
- The addresses you search are used to provide the search feature only. We do not use them to build a public map of where memories exist.
11. Children's privacy
livedhere.world is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
As described in section 10, we also take active steps to ensure the site cannot be used to locate or profile children in their homes: private residences are never shown on a browsable map, are discoverable only by direct address search, and content describing the current occupants or household makeup of a home is not permitted and will be removed.
12. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, and use of reputable infrastructure providers.
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we will notify you and relevant authorities in the event of a data breach as required by law.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page with a revised “last updated” date. For significant changes, we will notify you by email or by a notice on the site. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
