📍Palisades, New York, USA
1981 – 1986“Angelina Jolie was born in Los Angeles in June 1975, the daughter of the actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand. Her parents separated when she was a baby, and she and her brother, James, were raised by their mother. When Angelina was about six, Marcheline and her partner, the filmmaker Bill Day, moved the family across the country to Palisades, New York, a quiet, wooded hamlet on the cliffs above the Hudson River, about twenty miles north of Manhattan. They lived there for about five years. Palisades was a world of woods, old stone houses and river views, and the children had a quieter, more countrified life than in Hollywood. Her mother, who had given up her own acting dreams, loved films and took Angelina and James to see them often, and Angelina has said that her love of acting came from her mother, not her famous father. She was a dramatic, imaginative child who loved to perform for her family. She was very close to her mother throughout her life. When she was about eleven, the family returned to Los Angeles, and she enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, appearing in several stage productions. At Beverly Hills High School she felt like an outsider among wealthier children, and was teased for her thinness, glasses and braces. She went on to become one of Hollywood's biggest stars, winning an Oscar for Girl, Interrupted, and devoted much of her life to humanitarian work as a special envoy for the United Nations refugee agency.”
