1951 – 1955“George W. Bush spent around four years of his childhood in this modest house on West Ohio Avenue in Midland, Texas, a booming west Texas oil town of new suburbs, dust storms and wide skies. His father, George H. W. Bush, had moved the young family there to make his way in the oil business. These were formative years: he started playing Little League baseball, a lifelong love, and two of his younger brothers, including Jeb, were born. They were also years of grief. His little sister Robin was diagnosed with leukaemia and died in 1953, aged three, and he has spoken of how that loss bound him closely to his mother. He later returned to Midland as an oilman himself, and married Laura, who had also grown up in the town. The house is now a museum, restored to the early 1950s, and is unusual in having been home to two presidents and a state governor.”
