📍Park Ridge, Illinois, USA
1942 – 1960“Harrison Ford was born in Chicago in July 1942 and grew up in Park Ridge, a quiet, leafy suburb north-west of the city, near O'Hare airport. His father, Christopher, was an advertising executive who had once been an actor, and his mother, Dorothy, had been a radio actress, though neither pushed him towards performing. His younger brother, Terence, was born in 1945. He has described himself as a shy, solitary boy who was often bullied and who kept to himself. He found confidence in the Boy Scouts, reaching the rank of Life Scout, and spent summers as a counsellor at the Napowan Adventure Base scout camp in Wisconsin, where he taught the reptile study merit badge. That memory later led him and Steven Spielberg to make the young Indiana Jones a Life Scout in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. At Maine East High School in Park Ridge he was an average student, but when the school launched its own radio station, WMTH, his was the first student voice heard on air, and he became its first sportscaster. After graduating in 1960 he went to Ripon College in Wisconsin to study philosophy, and in his final year he took a drama class to overcome his shyness and discovered he loved acting. He moved to Los Angeles, worked as a carpenter between small roles, and was still taking carpentry jobs when George Lucas cast him as Han Solo in Star Wars. Park Ridge remembers him as its most famous son, and his old high school is proud of its first student broadcaster.”
