1912 – 1956“I was born Paul Jackson Pollock on the 28th of January 1912 in Cody, Wyoming, the youngest of five sons of a farmer. The Wyoming landscape of my earliest years — vast, uncontained, indifferent to human scale — entered my imagination before I had the means to express it. I came to New York in 1930, moved to Springs on Long Island with Lee Krasner in 1945, and built the barn studio where the drip paintings were made. The Wyoming childhood gave me the sense of scale; the drip technique gave me the means to put it on canvas. I died in a car accident in Springs in 1956 at forty-four.”
