1968 – 2003“I built my house on the shores of Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville, Tennessee in 1968, and June and I lived there together for thirty-five years until we both died within months of each other in 2003. The house was everything I wanted — close enough to Nashville for the music business but far enough away to feel like the country, with the lake right outside the door and enough land to walk and breathe and be quiet. I had been through the fires by the time I settled in Hendersonville — the pills and the darkness and the years of chaos — and the house was part of the life I built on the other side of all that. June made it a home in the way that only she could, and when she died four months before I did, the rooms knew it immediately.”
