1984 – 2004“Mark Elliot Zuckerberg was born in White Plains, New York, in May 1984, and grew up in Dobbs Ferry, a small town on the Hudson River in Westchester County, in a Jewish family. His father, Edward, was a dentist with a practice attached to the family home, and his mother, Karen, was a psychiatrist. He began programming as a child, and as a teenager he built a messaging system, called ZuckNet, that connected the computers in his father's dental office with the family home. He attended Ardsley High School and then Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, where he excelled in classics and was captain of the fencing team. At Harvard, in February 2004, he launched Facebook from his dormitory room in Kirkland House, and he soon left university to run the company full-time in California.”
