1963 – 1981“Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York, in February 1963, and his family moved to Wilmington, on the coast of North Carolina, when he was a small child. His father, James, worked at a General Electric plant, and his mother, Deloris, worked at a bank, and they raised five children in a close, disciplined home. Michael played baseball and basketball, competing fiercely with his older brother Larry in their backyard. At Emsley A. Laney High School, as a sophomore, he was left off the varsity basketball team, a setback he has said made him work harder than ever. He grew several inches, made the varsity team the next year, and was recruited by the University of North Carolina, where he hit the winning shot in the 1982 national championship. He went on to win six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls.”
