📍Grapevine, Texas, USA
2005 – 2013“Austin Richard Post, known as Post Malone, was born in Syracuse, New York, in 1995, and when he was nine, in 2005, his family moved to Grapevine, Texas, a fast-growing suburb between Dallas and Fort Worth, close to the airport. His father, Rich, had taken a job running concessions for the Dallas Cowboys, which meant free food and tickets to games for the family; Austin became a huge Cowboys fan. His father also played him an enormous range of music, from country and Johnny Cash to hip-hop and 50 Cent. The family lived in a two-storey house in a quiet neighbourhood of Grapevine, and Austin was a creative, fun-loving kid. He started playing guitar at fourteen after becoming hooked on the video game Guitar Hero, and he taught himself much more by watching videos online. At Grapevine High School he played in a heavy-metal band and auditioned for a metalcore band, though his guitar string broke during the audition. He also began making hip-hop beats and recording songs with friends, and classmates voted him the student most likely to be famous. After school he enrolled at Tarrant County College but dropped out after a few months, and in 2014 he moved to Los Angeles with a friend to make music. In 2015 his song White Iverson went viral and launched one of the most successful careers in modern music, blending hip-hop, rock and country. Grapevine claims him proudly, and his love of the Cowboys and Texas country music has never left him.”
