1930 – 1958“Warren Edward Buffett was born in Omaha, Nebraska, in August 1930, the only son of Howard Buffett, a stockbroker who later served in Congress, and Leila Stahl. He was fascinated by numbers and business from a young age: he sold chewing gum, Coca-Cola and magazines door to door, delivered newspapers, and at eleven he bought his first shares, in Cities Service, alongside his sister Doris. He filed his first tax return at thirteen. After his father's election the family moved to Washington, D.C., but Omaha remained home; he returned after studying at Columbia under Benjamin Graham, and in 1958 he bought a house in the Dundee neighbourhood for 31,500 dollars, where he has lived ever since. From Omaha he built Berkshire Hathaway into one of the world's largest companies, and in September 2026, at ninety-six, he stepped down as its chairman.”
