📍Via Alcide De Gasperi 1, 38050 Pieve Tesino (TN), Italy
1881 – 1954“I was born Alcide Amedeo Francesco De Gasperi on the 3rd of April 1881 in Pieve Tesino, a small mountain village in the Trentino — then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, now northern Italy. The mountain village and the Trentino Catholic culture gave me the values that defined my political career: Christian Democracy, European integration, and the patient reconstruction of a democratic Italy from the ruins of Fascism and the Second World War. I was Prime Minister of Italy for eight crucial years from 1945 to 1953 — longer than any other postwar Italian Prime Minister. I was one of the founding fathers of the European project alongside Schuman and Adenauer. Pieve Tesino, the Dolomites above it, the Trentino culture between Austria and Italy — these were the beginning of a European life.”
