📍Flero, Brescia, Italy
1979 – 1995“Andrea Pirlo was born in May 1979 in Flero, a small village in the flat countryside a few kilometres south of Brescia, in Lombardy. His father ran a metal trading business in Brescia, which gave the family a comfortable life, and Andrea grew up with his brother, Ivan, who later helped run the company. Flero was a quiet place of houses, fields and small workshops, and football was the main entertainment for its boys. Andrea and Ivan practised constantly at home, kicking balls of rolled-up socks along the corridors, and Andrea spent hours in the streets of Flero perfecting his touch and passing. He began playing for the Flero youth team, then moved to Voluntas, a youth club in Brescia. He was slim and not especially fast, but he saw the game more clearly than anyone, and he later said that from an early age he knew he was better than the others, which sometimes made other children's parents resentful. In 1992 he joined the youth system of Brescia, the local professional club, and Atalanta's attempts to lure him away were rebuffed. He made his Serie A debut for Brescia at sixteen, in 1995. Moving into a deep-lying playmaker's role, he became one of the most elegant midfielders of his generation, winning two Champions Leagues with Milan, four league titles with Juventus, and the 2006 World Cup with Italy, where he was named man of the match in the final. He has kept his connections with Brescia and its countryside, including a family vineyard nearby.”
