📍Rua Condessa Siciliano 528, Jardim São Paulo, São Paulo 02040-001, Brazil
1960 – 1984“I grew up in the Santana neighbourhood of São Paulo, in a comfortable upper-middle-class family — my father Milton was a successful businessman — and the contrast between my privileged upbringing and the Brazil I saw around me shaped my social conscience as much as anything else in my life. I began karting at four years old, supported entirely by my father's resources, and from the beginning I understood that my path to Formula One was smoothed by advantages that Brazilian drivers from poorer backgrounds would never have. I never forgot that. The streets of São Paulo — their chaos, their beauty, their inequality — were always present in my mind even at Monaco or Silverstone. I drove with a Brazilian flag in my car from the beginning of my career, wanting people to see not just a racing driver but a country.”
