📍84 Rue Claude Monet, 27620 Giverny, Normandy, France
1883 – 1926“I spent the last thirty years of my life at Giverny — the house with its pink walls and green shutters, the walled garden, and the water garden I created by diverting the River Epte. The water garden was the great project of my last decades: the Japanese bridge, the weeping willows, the water lilies that I painted in the enormous canvases of my final years. I was nearly blind by the end, operating from memory and colour sense, and the late Water Lilies paintings have a freedom that only blindness could have produced. Giverny was my paradise — the garden I created and the paintings it generated were a single work, inseparable from each other.”
