1930 – 1954“Clinton Eastwood Jr. was born in San Francisco in May 1930, during the Depression, the elder child of Clinton Eastwood Sr., a steelworker and later a businessman, and Margaret Ruth Runner. His father moved the family around California in search of work, to Sacramento, Redding, Pacific Grove and other towns, before they settled in Piedmont, across the bay. Clint went to Piedmont High School and then Oakland Technical High School, and he loved jazz, learning piano and playing in clubs. As a young man he worked as a lifeguard, a lumberjack, a forest firefighter and a furnace stoker at a steel mill. After serving in the army as a swimming instructor at Fort Ord, he moved to Los Angeles, and in the 1950s he began acting, becoming famous in the television series Rawhide and the westerns of Sergio Leone. He went on to win Academy Awards as a director, and at ninety-six his son reported that he had retired.”
