1964 – 1982“Dorothee Pesch was born in Düsseldorf, West Germany, in June 1964, the daughter of a truck driver who ran his own transport company, and grew up in the city on the Rhine. She has said that she knew she wanted to be a singer from the age of three, when she heard Little Richard's Lucille, and that she loved the energy of rock and roll more than anything. As a girl she loved the glam rock of the 1970s, from Sweet to Suzi Quatro, and then discovered Judas Priest and the British heavy metal bands. She trained as a typographer, a practical career, while singing in Düsseldorf's underground metal scene with bands like Snakebite and Attack, one of very few women singing heavy metal at the time. Düsseldorf's clubs and rehearsal rooms were her school, and she had a powerful voice and fierce determination. In 1982 she co-founded Warlock in Düsseldorf, and with albums like Triumph and Agony and the anthem All We Are, Warlock became one of the first metal bands fronted by a woman to achieve international success, touring Europe and America. When legal disputes ended the band, she continued under her own name, Doro, recording more than a dozen albums. Known as the Metal Queen, she has inspired generations of women in metal, and she remains devoted to her fans and to Düsseldorf, where she has celebrated her career anniversaries with hometown shows.”
