📍Bryne, Rogaland, Norway
2003 – 2017“Erling Braut Haaland was born in Leeds, England, in July 2000, while his father, Alf-Inge Haaland, was playing for Leeds United, and when he was three the family moved home to Bryne, a small farming town on the flat Jæren coast of south-west Norway, south of Stavanger. His mother, Gry Marita Braut, was a former heptathlete, and Erling grew up with his older brother and sister in a sporty family, surrounded by fields, sea winds and open space. He tried many sports as a boy, and he was a strong all-round athlete; as a small child he set a world record for his age in the standing long jump. At about five he started playing football at Bryne FK, the local club where his father had begun, and at eight he joined the after-school programme of youth coach Espen Undheim, training three times a week. He was then almost entirely left-footed, so his coaches worked hard on his right foot. His youth coach for eight years, Alf Ingve Berntsen, kept the team of local boys together and let Erling play with older players. He was tall, skinny and gangly, and only later grew into the powerful striker he became. He made his debut for Bryne's first team at fifteen, in 2016, and in 2017 he moved to Molde, where Ole Gunnar Solskjær coached him. After Red Bull Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund, he joined Manchester City in 2022, his father's old club, and won the treble in his first season, breaking the Premier League scoring record. Bryne is enormously proud of him, and he still returns home often.”
