📍Buk-gu, Busan, South Korea
1997 – 2011“Jeon Jungkook grew up in Mandeok-dong, a hillside neighbourhood in Busan's Buk-gu district, the younger of two brothers, going to Baekyang Elementary and Middle School. Busan is South Korea's great port city — sea air, steep streets and a famously direct, warm dialect he has never quite lost. As a boy he wanted to be a badminton player, until he saw G-Dragon perform Heartbreaker on television and decided he wanted to sing. At thirteen he auditioned for the talent show Superstar K in his home city, singing IU's Lost Child. He didn't make it through — but on the way home, offers arrived from several entertainment companies. He chose a small company called Big Hit and moved to Seoul alone to train, transferring to a new middle school and living in a dormitory with older trainees who became his BTS bandmates. As the group's youngest member, its golden maknae, he has often spoken of missing Busan, his family and the sea in those early years.”
