📍Ilsan, Goyang, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea
1994 – 2010“Kim Namjoon was born in Seoul and moved at five to Ilsan, a planned new town in Goyang just north-west of the capital, built around a large lake park. He was a bookish, top-scoring student and taught himself English largely by watching the sitcom Friends, polishing it during a few months studying in New Zealand at twelve. In his first year of middle school he began writing raps, recording his first track on a home computer and performing in Ilsan's amateur hip-hop circles under the name Runch Randa. His talent reached a producer at Big Hit Entertainment, and the company built a group around him: he became the leader of BTS. He went on to become the group's main spokesman — addressing the United Nations in English in 2018 — and an avid reader and art lover whose solo work turns again and again to the quiet, ordinary moments of city life.”
