📍Leszno, Warsaw West County, Poland
1988 – 2006“Robert Lewandowski was born in Warsaw in August 1988 and grew up in Leszno, a village in the countryside west of the city. His father, Krzysztof, was a judo champion and footballer who became a physical education teacher, and his mother, Iwona, was a volleyball player and also a PE teacher. His older sister, Milena, played volleyball too. Robert grew up surrounded by sport, and at school he tried athletics, basketball and handball, as well as his parents' sports. Football was his great love, and at about eight his father began driving him into Warsaw to train with Varsovia, a club in the capital, where he played with boys two years older than him. His first coach, Marek Siwecki, remembered him as the smallest, skinniest boy, with legs like two thin sticks, but his technique and determination stood out. His father was his biggest supporter but when Robert was sixteen, his father died, a terrible loss. Soon after, he was released by Legia Warsaw, and he went to play for Znicz Pruszków in the third division, determined to succeed. He scored goals at every level, moving to Lech Poznań, then to Borussia Dortmund in 2010, and to Bayern Munich in 2014, where he won eight league titles and the Champions League, and scored five goals in nine minutes in 2015. He was named FIFA's Best Men's Player twice, and became Poland's all-time top scorer and captain. He has often said that he plays to make his father proud.”
