📍Dunblane, Stirling FK15, UK
1987 – 2002“Andy Murray was born in Glasgow in May 1987 and grew up in Dunblane, a small cathedral city on the Allan Water, north of Stirling, surrounded by the hills of the central Highlands. His mother, Judy, was a former Scottish tennis champion and coach, and his father, William, managed shops; his older brother, Jamie, became a Grand Slam doubles champion. Andy began playing tennis at three, coached by his mother on the courts of the Dunblane Sports Club, and he and Jamie played endless competitive games of every sport. When Andy was eight, he was at Dunblane Primary School on the day in March 1996 when a gunman killed sixteen children and their teacher in the school gym; he has spoken only rarely about it, but has said it shaped him. His parents separated when he was about ten, and the brothers lived with their father while their mother continued to coach them. Andy was fiercely competitive and hated losing, and he loved football too, being offered a trial with Rangers' youth set-up. He went to Dunblane High School and trained at the University of Stirling's tennis centre. At fifteen, frustrated that he had only his brother to train with, he moved to Barcelona to train on clay at the Sánchez-Casal Academy, a decision his family made at great expense. In 2012 he won Olympic gold and the US Open, and in 2013 he became the first British man to win Wimbledon in 77 years. He won again in 2016 and was knighted. Dunblane gave him a hero's welcome, and its postbox was painted gold in his honour.”
