2001 – 2019“Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell was born in Los Angeles in December 2001 and grew up in a small 1912 bungalow in Highland Park, a hilly, artistic neighbourhood in north-east Los Angeles. Her parents, Maggie Baird and Patrick O'Connell, were both actors and musicians, and the house had just two bedrooms, which went to Billie and her older brother, Finneas, while their parents slept in the living room. There were instruments everywhere: guitars, a piano and ukuleles, and the family often sang and played together. Billie and Finneas were homeschooled, which their parents said gave them time to follow their passions. Billie joined the Los Angeles Children's Chorus at eight, took dance lessons, rode horses, and wrote her first song at eleven, in a songwriting class her mother taught. Finneas set up a small studio in his bedroom, and the siblings began writing and recording there together, with Billie sitting on his bed to sing. In 2015, when she was thirteen, they recorded a song he had written, Ocean Eyes, so her dance teacher could choreograph a routine to it, and uploaded it to SoundCloud. It spread quickly, and record labels soon came calling. The siblings recorded her debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, in that same bedroom, and in 2020 it won Grammy Awards in all four major categories. The Highland Park house remained the family home, and Billie has spoken warmly of her parents, who taught her to be herself.”
