📍Cedarwood Road, Glasnevin, Dublin 11, Ireland
1960 – 1978“Paul Hewson's family moved to 10 Cedarwood Road, a new street of pebble-dashed houses between Finglas and Ballymun on Dublin's north side, when he was six weeks old, and he grew up there with his Catholic father, Protestant mother and older brother. The road was a world of its own: his friend Guggi lived at number 5, Gavin Friday at 140, and the gang of local boys formed what they called Lypton Village, a surreal, arty street society that gave each other new names. Gavin christened him Bono Vox. In September 1974, when he was fourteen, his mother Iris collapsed at her own father's funeral and died days later, and the house fell silent around his grief; he has said she was barely spoken of afterwards. At Mount Temple Comprehensive he answered a note on the noticeboard from a drummer named Larry Mullen and found his band, and met his future wife, Ali. He later wrote I Will Follow and Iris about his mother, and Cedarwood Road about the street that made him.”
