📍Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland
1993 – 2010“Niall Horan was born in Mullingar, County Westmeath, in September 1993, and grew up in this busy market town in the Irish Midlands, surrounded by lakes, farmland and the River Brosna. His parents, Bobby and Maura, separated when he was about five, and he and his older brother, Greg, spent time with each parent before settling with their father in Mullingar. He has described a happy, sporty, normal Irish childhood full of football, golf and friends. He went to St Kenny's National School and then Coláiste Mhuire, a Christian Brothers school in the town, where he sang in the school choir. His aunt first noticed his voice when he started singing in the back of her car, and he was soon singing everywhere. When Greg got a guitar and quickly lost interest, Niall picked it up, teaching himself to play from videos online. He loved the Eagles, Michael Bublé and the Irish singer-songwriters on the radio, and he entered talent shows, and as a teenager he performed at the Mullingar Arts Centre to raise money for the local football club. In 2010, at sixteen, he auditioned for The X Factor in Dublin, singing Jason Derulo's So Sick. He was put together with four other boys to form One Direction, which became one of the biggest bands in the world. After the band went on hiatus, he launched a successful solo career. He has always been fiercely proud of Mullingar and returns often, and the town gives him a warm welcome every time he comes home.”
