📍Fulham, London SW6, UK
1989 – 2007“Daniel Radcliffe was born in 1989 and grew up in Fulham, west London, the only child of Alan Radcliffe, a literary agent from a Northern Irish family, and Marcia Gresham, a casting agent born in South Africa. It was a bookish, theatre-loving home, where conversation about plays, writers and performances was part of daily life, and his parents were careful and protective about the world of show business they knew so well. At about five he announced that he wanted to act, and his parents gently held him back. He attended three boys' schools in London, Redcliffe School, Sussex House and later the City of London School, and he was not a natural star pupil: he has spoken openly about having a mild form of dyspraxia, which made handwriting and some everyday tasks harder, and about how acting became the thing he felt good at. When he was ten, his parents finally agreed that he could audition for a BBC adaptation of David Copperfield, and he played the young David. A year later, at a performance in the West End, his parents happened to be sitting near the producer David Heyman, who was looking for his Harry Potter. Daniel was cast, and spent the next decade at Leavesden studios while continuing his schooling on set. He has credited his down-to-earth Fulham upbringing, and parents who refused to let fame go to his head, with keeping him grounded. He went on to choose bold stage roles, from Equus to Merrily We Roll Along, and has spoken up for children with dyspraxia and supported LGBTQ+ young people through The Trevor Project.”
