📍Garden Lodge, 1 Logan Place, London, UK
1980 – 1991“Garden Lodge was my sanctuary — a beautiful Victorian house behind high walls in Logan Place, Kensington, that I spent years renovating and decorating until every room expressed exactly who I was. I filled it with Japanese lacquerwork and Murano glass and paintings by Picasso and Sutherland and Freud, and I planted the garden with roses and lavender so that in summer the whole place smelled like paradise. After years of hotels and touring and the relentless exposure of being Freddie Mercury, those walls gave me something extraordinary: a private life. I could cook for friends, sit in the garden with my cats, play the piano without it being an event. The house knew me as Fred, not Freddie, and that distinction meant the world to me in the end.”
