📍Villa Oleandra, Laglio, Province of Como, Italy
from 2002“George Clooney grew up in Kentucky and southern Ohio, in Augusta and the towns around Cincinnati, the son of a local TV newsman, Nick Clooney, and nephew of the singer Rosemary Clooney — his father's small-town newsrooms were part of his childhood. He sold insurance door to door and cut tobacco before driving to Hollywood to try acting. In 2002 he bought Villa Oleandra, a 25-room eighteenth-century villa on the western shore of Lake Como in the tiny village of Laglio, with gardens running down to the water, a pool and a garage for his vintage motorbikes. He said buying the villa changed his life in a very pleasant and unexpected way. He and his friends spend summers there, and the villa has become his favourite place to unwind. The villa became such an attraction that Laglio's mayor brought in fines for groups of fans gathering outside its gates. Boat tours on the lake still point it out every day.”
