📍Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, UK
1971 – 1987“Gordon Ramsay was born in Johnstone, near Glasgow, in November 1966, and his family moved often during his childhood because of his father's restless search for work, before settling in Stratford-upon-Avon, the Warwickshire market town on the River Avon, best known as Shakespeare's birthplace. He grew up on a council estate in the Bishopton area of the town with his mother, Helen, a nurse, his father, also Gordon, and his three siblings. He has spoken openly about his father's drinking and violence, and about growing up poor, sometimes with holes in his school uniform. Sport was his escape. He swam for the county and played football for Warwickshire, and he was so good that, as a teenager, he was courted by Glasgow Rangers, the club his father supported. He went to Stratford-upon-Avon High School and dreamed of a professional football career, but a serious knee injury ended it in his late teens. He has described that disappointment as devastating, and the drive and anger of those years as the fuel for everything that followed. He enrolled at North Oxfordshire Technical College to study hotel management and began cooking, then trained under Marco Pierre White in London and with great chefs in Paris. In 1998 he opened Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea, which won three Michelin stars, and he became famous on television with Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares and MasterChef. He has spoken often about how his tough childhood taught him resilience.”
