📍Gurdwara Janam Asthan, GT Road, Nankana Sahib, Punjab 39100, Pakistan
1469 – 1539“I was born Nanak on the 15th of April 1469 in Nankana Sahib in the Punjab, now Pakistan. I grew up in a Hindu family in a region where Hinduism and Islam coexisted and sometimes conflicted. I worked as an accountant and spent time with both Hindu and Muslim teachers. At thirty I had a mystical experience and emerged saying: there is no Hindu, there is no Muslim. I spent the following years travelling to Mecca, Varanasi, Sri Lanka, and Tibet, teaching that God is one and that the divisions of religion, caste, and gender were human inventions obscuring the divine reality. I established the first Sikh community at Kartarpur and lived there until my death. The Gurdwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib marks the place of my birth and draws pilgrims from across the world.”
