📍Mingora, Swat, Pakistan
1997 – 2012“Malala Yousafzai was born in Mingora, the largest town in the Swat Valley in north-western Pakistan, in July 1997. Her father, Ziauddin, ran a school and campaigned openly for girls' education. When the Pakistani Taliban took control of much of Swat and began banning girls from school, Malala, at eleven, wrote an anonymous diary for the BBC's Urdu service describing life under their rule, and she began speaking publicly about girls' right to learn. In October 2012, when she was fifteen, a gunman boarded her school bus in Mingora and shot her in the head. She survived and was flown to Birmingham, England, for treatment, and her family settled there. In 2014, at seventeen, she became the youngest person ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, and her fund works for girls' education around the world.”
