📍Château de Chambord, 41250 Chambord, Loir-et-Cher, France
1519 – 1547“Leonardo came to Amboise already old and brought with him a lifetime's drawings. I believe he influenced the double-helix staircase here at Chambord, though I cannot prove it. I commissioned this palace as a hunting lodge — the most extravagant hunting lodge ever built, with 440 rooms and 365 fireplaces. I slept here rarely but thought about it constantly. Chambord is what it looks like when a king refuses to be moderate about anything.”
