📍Dartford, Kent, UK
1943 – 1962“Mick Jagger grew up in Dartford, an industrial town on the Thames estuary in Kent, the elder son of a physical-education teacher and a hairdresser who was active in the local Conservative Party. He was a bright, sporty boy at Wentworth Primary School, where one of his classmates was a quiet kid named Keith Richards. The families lost touch when the Jaggers moved across town in 1954, and Mick went on to Dartford Grammar School, singing in a garage band with his friend Dick Taylor and sending away to Chicago's Chess Records for blues albums no shop in Kent would stock. On 17 October 1961, waiting for a train on platform two at Dartford station, he was holding two of them — Chuck Berry's Rockin' at the Hops and The Best of Muddy Waters — when Keith walked up and recognised him. They talked records all the way to London, and within a year they had formed the Rolling Stones. Dartford now has a plaque at the station and a music venue named the Mick Jagger Centre.”
