📍Kensington Palace, Kensington Gardens, London W8 4PX, UK
1984 – 1997“Harry grew up in Apartments 8 and 9 at Kensington Palace, the joined flats where his mother made the whole top floor into a nursery for him and his older brother William. In his memoir Spare he describes the run of the place as a small boy: the corridors, the gardens, the staff he loved, and his mother's laughter and mischief — sneaking her sons out to McDonald's, to theme parks and to ordinary places most royal children never saw. Weekends and holidays took him to Highgrove in Gloucestershire and to Balmoral. He was twelve and at Balmoral when she was killed in Paris in 1997, and days later he walked behind her coffin through London; he has spoken since about years spent refusing to face his grief. He went back to Ludgrove School soon after, and spent an extra year there before Eton. Kensington Palace remained his London home into adulthood: he and Meghan were living in its Nottingham Cottage when they announced their engagement, before their move to North America.”
