📍Windsor Castle, Windsor, Berkshire SL4 1NJ, England
1558 – 1603“Windsor Castle has been the principal seat of the English monarchy since William the Conqueror, and I governed England from it for forty-five years. I was born at Greenwich, but Windsor was where I felt most fully myself as a Queen — the Round Tower visible across the Home Park, the Long Walk running south through the deer park, the castle's combination of military strength and domestic comfort. I learned to manage the Council here, to receive foreign ambassadors in the state rooms, to keep the court's factions in a balance that served England rather than any single interest. I never married, which every man in Europe thought an error and which I knew was the condition of my power. No husband would have permitted me to govern as I did.”
