📍Bateman's, Burwash, Etchingham, East Sussex TN19 7DS, United Kingdom
1902 – 1936“We found Bateman's in 1902 after years of searching — a stone Jacobean manor built in 1634, watermill still working on the Dudwell River. I told Carrie: this is it. I was thirty-seven and had already published The Jungle Book, Kim, and enough poetry to fill several volumes. Bateman's gave me the English countryside I had been writing about as a man who spent his formative years in India. The mill I restored to working order and ground my own flour.”
