2003 – 2018“Carlos Alcaraz was born in Murcia, in south-eastern Spain, in May 2003 and grew up in El Palmar, a busy town on the southern edge of the city, among orange and lemon groves and dry hills. His father, Carlos, a former player who was once ranked in Spain's top fifty, has run the tennis school at the Real Sociedad Club de Campo in El Palmar for decades, and the club was effectively the family's second home. Carlos is the second of four brothers, and two of them also play. He began hitting balls at the club at four, spending hours against the wall and playing with friends, and his talent and joy were obvious early on. He was an outgoing, cheerful boy who loved football and supported Real Madrid, and he was soon beating older children in regional tournaments. When he was about fifteen, a tennis agent connected the family with Juan Carlos Ferrero, a former world number one, who invited him to train at his academy in Villena, more than a hundred kilometres north. His parents agreed, and from 2018 he lived and trained at the academy, coached by Ferrero. In 2022, at nineteen, he won the US Open and became the youngest man ever to be ranked world number one. He went on to win Wimbledon twice, the French Open and more, and became one of the biggest stars in the game. El Palmar celebrates every victory, and he returns to the club there whenever he can.”
