📍Avellaneda 501, Alta Gracia, Córdoba, Argentina
1932 – 1943“I was born in Rosario, and when I was small a severe asthma took hold of me, so my parents followed a doctor's advice and moved us to Alta Gracia, a resort town in the Córdoba hills, for its dry mountain air. I lived there from about four until sixteen, and our main home was Villa Beatriz, a rambling house on the edge of town. My asthma often kept me home from school, so my mother, Celia, taught me to read and write, and I devoured my father's library — adventure stories, poetry, philosophy. I refused to let illness stop me: I swam, climbed, played football, golf and later rugby, carrying my inhaler. Our house was open and unconventional, full of books, debate and friends of every class, and I played with the children of local workers and caddies. Later, travelling across South America on a motorcycle, I saw poverty that set the course of my life. Villa Beatriz is now the Museo Casa de Ernesto Che Guevara.”
