2000 – 2006“Aubrey Drake Graham was born in Toronto in October 1986, the son of Sandi Graham, a teacher, and Dennis Graham, a drummer from Memphis. His parents separated when he was five, and he lived with his mother in apartments in the Weston Road area of Toronto, where he has said they had a basement-and-first-floor home that was small but what they could afford. In 2000, when he was in sixth grade, they moved to Forest Hill, a much wealthier neighbourhood, where he went to Forest Hill Collegiate Institute and began acting. At about fifteen he won the role of Jimmy Brooks on the television series Degrassi: The Next Generation, helping to support his mother, who was unwell. He left school to focus on acting and music, and later returned to complete his diploma. His mixtapes and his 2010 debut album made him one of the best-selling artists of his generation, and he has always championed Toronto.”
