📍Caboolture, Queensland 4510, Australia
1970 – 1992“Keith Urban was born in Whangārei, in Northland, New Zealand, in 1967, and when he was two his family moved to Queensland, settling in Caboolture, a small town north of Brisbane. His parents, Bob and Marienne, ran a convenience store, and both loved country music, filling the house with records by Dolly Parton, Jim Reeves, Glen Campbell and Johnny Cash. His father took him to concerts, and those records became the soundtrack of his childhood. At four he was given a ukulele, and at six he started guitar lessons, after his father put a notice in the shop window asking for a teacher. His teacher, Sue McCarthy, recognised his talent, and by eight Keith was entering and winning talent competitions around south-east Queensland. Caboolture was a working-class town, and Keith spent his weekends playing in clubs, pubs and community halls, often with his parents driving him to gigs. He left school at fifteen to concentrate on music. As a teenager he performed on Australian television talent shows and played in country bands around Queensland, and he won a Golden Guitar at the Tamworth Country Music Festival. In 1992 he moved to Nashville, where, after years of struggle, he became one of the biggest stars in country music, winning Grammy and CMA awards and serving as a judge on The Voice and American Idol. He has often spoken of his father's love of country music and of the small-town gigs of his Caboolture youth as the foundation of everything.”
