1980 – 1998“Kim Kardashian was born in 1980 and grew up in Beverly Hills, the second of four children of the lawyer and businessman Robert Kardashian and Kris Jenner. The family home was a 1950s house near Rodeo Drive that her parents bought before she was born, and life there revolved around family dinners, Sunday church and a busy, sociable household. Robert Kardashian was proud of his Armenian heritage, and Kim later spoke about how that identity mattered more to her as she grew older. Her preschool classmates in the neighbourhood included Paris Hilton. Her parents divorced when she was about ten, and her mother later married the Olympic champion now known as Caitlyn Jenner, so Kim grew up between households. Her father had a firm rule that once the children turned eighteen, they could not simply live off the family's money, and Kim took on jobs from her teens. She attended Marymount High School, a Catholic girls' school in Bel Air, graduating in 1998. In 1994 the family was pulled into the national spotlight when her father, a longtime friend of O.J. Simpson, joined his defence team, and Kim saw at close quarters both the power of public attention and the workings of the law. The organising, image-conscious instincts she developed in Los Angeles went into her styling work, the family reality show and her businesses. The legal side found its own outlet: in her late thirties she began studying law through California's apprenticeship route, and she has campaigned for criminal justice reform, an interest often traced back to watching her father at work.”
