📍24 Rue Nungesser et Coli, 75016 Paris, France
1934 – 1965“I was Charles-Édouard Jeanneret, born in La Chaux-de-Fonds, a high watchmaking town in the Swiss Jura, where I trained to engrave watch cases before my teacher steered me towards architecture. I made my name in Paris with Villa Savoye and dreams of cities full of light, air and greenery. Between 1931 and 1934, with my cousin Pierre Jeanneret, I designed an apartment building at 24 Rue Nungesser et Coli on the western edge of Paris, the Immeuble Molitor, and kept the top two floors for myself. On the east side was my studio, facing a party wall I left as raw rubble stone, where I painted every morning before going to the office in the afternoon; on the west, towards Boulogne, our flat, with a roof garden above. Yvonne and I lived here together for over twenty years, and I stayed on after she was gone, living here for more than thirty years in all. The apartment-studio is now cared for by the Fondation Le Corbusier and is part of a UNESCO World Heritage listing of my work.”
