1990 – 2007“Margot Robbie was born in Dalby, Queensland, in 1990 and grew up mostly on her grandparents' farm in the Currumbin Valley, in the green hinterland behind the Gold Coast. Her mother, Sarie Kessler, a physiotherapist, raised Margot and her three siblings largely on her own after her parents separated. The farm had horses, open paddocks and creeks, and the children were expected to be independent and to help out. Her mother encouraged every interest, enrolling her in a circus school, where she excelled on the trapeze and earned a certificate at eight. Margot was a lively, adventurous child who loved performing, making up shows and playing outdoors. At Somerset College on the Gold Coast she studied drama and acted in school productions. As a teenager she worked three jobs at once, tending bar, cleaning houses and making sandwiches at Subway, saving every dollar she could. After school she moved to Melbourne and landed a role on Neighbours, which she played from 2008 to 2011. Then she moved to the United States, and her breakthrough came in The Wolf of Wall Street. She went on to found her own production company, LuckyChap, and to star in and produce Barbie, one of the most successful films of its time. She has often credited the Currumbin Valley farm and her hard-working mother for her toughness and her love of adventure, and she remains a proud Queenslander.”
