📍Northland, Wellington, New Zealand
1884 – 1950“I was born Peter Fraser on the 28th of August 1884 in Fearn, a village in Ross-shire in the Scottish Highlands, and I arrived in New Zealand in 1910 as a young socialist organiser. Wellington became my city — I represented the Wellington Central electorate for thirty years, became Prime Minister in 1940, and led New Zealand through the Second World War with a steady hand and genuine moral seriousness. I fought for the San Francisco Conference that created the United Nations and argued that small nations deserved the same voice as large ones. New Zealand's free and universal health and education systems were largely my achievement. The Scottish Highlands that formed me and the Wellington waterfront where I lived were very different places, but both gave me the belief that ordinary people deserved better than what the world usually offered them.”
