📍Applecross, Perth, WA 6153, Australia
1979 – 1995“I grew up on the western side of the Swan River, in and around Applecross, where the water was never far and the light came off it golden in the late afternoon. My name came from a character in Wuthering Heights — my mother taught French and loved books; my father chased speed in racing cars. I was restless and dreamy in equal measure, forever performing, never quite still. Perth felt like the end of the earth then, a beautiful, isolated city you had to leave to be seen. I loved it and I needed to escape it, and the moment I could I went — first to Sydney, then to the world — carrying that river light with me.”
