📍Monumen Perang Puputan Jagaraga, Desa Jagaraga, Kecamatan Sawan, Kabupaten Buleleng, Bali 81171, Indonesia
1800 – 1849“When the Dutch fleet first appeared off Buleleng's coast in 1846, the Raja sent me to negotiate. I negotiated nothing — I refused to accept their terms because their terms were our submission. When they came back in 1848 with more ships and more soldiers, we were ready. At Jagaraga I had built bamboo fortifications and trained my people in a form of warfare the Dutch did not expect. We killed two hundred of them and drove the rest into the sea. For a moment, Bali had defeated Europe. They returned in 1849 with an army that we could not match. I fled to Karangasem, and there I was killed in an ambush — by Lombok forces who chose the Dutch side. I ask only to be remembered as the Patih who said no when no was the right answer.”
