📍Plaza de la Merced 15, 29012 Málaga, Andalusia, Spain
1881 – 1895“I was born Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno Crispín Crispiniano María Remedios de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz Picasso on the 25th of October 1881 in Málaga, a port city on the Mediterranean coast of Andalusia. My father José was a drawing teacher who recognised my talent almost before I could walk — by thirteen he had given me his own palette and brushes, declaring he would never paint again. Málaga gave me the Mediterranean light and the Spanish directness that never left my work. I left for Barcelona at fourteen and then for Paris, and the world changed. But the Málaga childhood — the fishing port, the bullfights, the light on the whitewashed walls — was always the ground beneath the Cubism and the Guernica and everything that followed.”
