2004 – 2012“Roseanne Park was born in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1997 to South Korean immigrant parents, and when she was about seven the family moved to Melbourne, settling in Box Hill, a lively eastern suburb with a large Asian community. Her family was close and church-going, and music was central to their life; Roseanne sang in her church choir from childhood and loved performing for her family. She learned piano and taught herself guitar, playing and singing for hours at home. She attended Canterbury Girls' Secondary College, where she was a cheerleader and joined in school music. Melbourne's multicultural suburbs gave her an easy confidence in both Korean and Australian culture. She loved Western pop and K-pop alike, and dreamed of singing professionally, though her parents, wary of the music industry, hoped she might take a more conventional path. In 2012, when she was fifteen, her father suggested, half-jokingly, that she try out at YG Entertainment's audition in Sydney. She came first, moved to Seoul and spent four years training before Blackpink debuted in 2016. Her distinctive voice and guitar playing made her a favourite, and in 2024 her song APT. with Bruno Mars became a worldwide hit. She has spoken warmly of her Melbourne childhood, and Box Hill and her old school are proud to claim her.”
