📍Cornwall, Ontario, Canada
1980 – 1993“Ryan Gosling was born in London, Ontario, in November 1980 and grew up in Cornwall, a mill town on the St Lawrence River in eastern Ontario, close to the US border. His father, Thomas, was a travelling salesman for a paper mill, and his mother, Donna, a secretary. He had an older sister, Mandi, and the family were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which shaped their daily life. He struggled at school, where he was bullied and had trouble reading, and for a year his mother took him out of school and taught him at home. He found his outlet in performing: he and his sister sang at weddings and local events, and his uncle, who performed as an Elvis impersonator, brought young Ryan into his act. He loved films and dancing. His parents divorced when he was about thirteen, and he lived with his mother and sister. In 1993 he went to an open audition in Montreal and beat thousands of other children to a place on Disney's The Mickey Mouse Club, alongside Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera; he lived with Timberlake's family in Orlando while filming. He went on to become one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation, with films including The Notebook, La La Land and Barbie. He has spoken warmly of his mother and sister, whose support carried him through a difficult childhood.”
