📍Port Lligat, 17488 Cadaqués, Catalonia, Spain
1930 – 1982“I was born Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech on the 11th of May 1904 in Figueres, Catalonia, and spent the most important years of my life in the Costa Brava fishing village of Cadaqués and the nearby hamlet of Portlligat, where I built and rebuilt a house from connected fishermen's cottages over forty years. The Cadaqués landscape — the rocky coves, the olive trees, the particular quality of the Tramontane wind and the Mediterranean light — was the landscape of The Persistence of Memory. I returned to Portlligat after every journey and the house grew with each return. Gala and I lived there together and she is buried in the castle I bought for her at Púbol. Portlligat was the only place I was entirely myself.”
