📍Camas, Seville, Spain
1986 – 2005“Sergio Ramos García was born in March 1986 in Camas, a small town on the west bank of the Guadalquivir, just across the river from Seville, in Andalusia. He was one of three children of José María Ramos and Paqui García, and he grew up in the neighbourhood of La Atalaya with his brother, René, and sister, Miriam. Camas is a proud town with deep Andalusian traditions, including flamenco, which Ramos has loved all his life. It was René, the football-mad older brother, who encouraged Sergio to join the local club, Camas, when he was about six. He was a strong, competitive boy who would play anywhere on the pitch and never gave up, and he went to school at the Colegio La Colina in his neighbourhood. When he was about ten, he joined the youth academy of Sevilla FC, across the river, where he was developed as a defender. René later became his agent and a constant support throughout his career. He made his debut for Sevilla in 2004, and in 2005, at nineteen, he joined Real Madrid. There he became one of the finest defenders of his generation, captaining the club and winning four Champions Leagues and five league titles. With Spain he won the European Championship in 2008 and 2012 and the World Cup in 2010, and became the country's most capped player. He has remained deeply attached to Camas and to Andalusia, returning often to the town, and in 2023 he went home to Sevilla, the club where his career began.”
